For the B. Des in Digital Multimedia Design Capstone, I wrote
and illustrated a children’s book titled, “A Star as Bright as Any Other”. The story is about a child with big dreams, but low self-confidence. The child transforms as they are taught by a new alien friend that they can achieve any goal they set their mind to.

As I’ve gotten older, the biggest lesson I’ve learned is that we are all just people. All the things we aspire to do or be were done by other humans first and I know now that anything is attainable. The goal of this project was to create a positive story to inspire kids who feel the same as I felt as a child. To present this message, I wanted to create a fun and visually interesting book that expresses the freedom and excitement that comes with knowing you accomplish anything.

The outcome of this project is a twenty-three-page children’s book fully written and illustrated by myself. I believe the beginning of the story demonstrates the low self-confidence a child can feel, but by the end of the book, successfully argues why any child can achieve their dreams. By completing this project, I have personally created a strong portfolio piece to demonstrate my artistic and storytelling skills, along with a motivation to finish large projects.
